Privacy Policy

Last updated · May 19, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Neuron Software Inc. (“Neuron,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, shares, and protects personal information when you visit neuron.ink, join our waitlist, or use the Neuron mobile app (collectively, the “Service”). We’re an Ontario corporation based in Canada, and we comply with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and Quebec’s Law 25, with additional protections where the laws that apply to you (for example, the EU/UK GDPR or the California Consumer Privacy Act) require them.

The Neuron iOS app is in development and is not yet publicly available. Today, the live Service is the marketing site at neuron.ink and the waitlist signup. This policy is written to cover both surfaces so it won’t change materially when the app launches.

The short version

  • If you join the waitlist, we collect your email address (and your name if you give it to us) so we can let you know when the app is ready.
  • When the iOS app is available, we’ll collect your account information and the journal entries you write. That’s the bulk of it.
  • To generate AI reflections and prompts, we send your content to third-party AI providers (OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google) on their paid API tiers, which under their published terms do not use your content to train their models.
  • We don’t sell your data. We don’t share it for advertising.
  • We don’t use your journal entries to train our own or anyone else’s AI models.
  • You can access, export, correct, or delete your data at any time by emailing hello@neuron.ink or by using the controls in the app once it’s released.

1. Who this policy applies to

This policy covers the Neuron marketing website at neuron.ink (including the waitlist signup and any future product-update emails) and the Neuron iOS app once it’s released. If we add new surfaces (for example, an Android app or a web app), this policy will be updated to cover them.

2. Information we collect

Information you give us at the waitlist stage

  • Waitlist signup: your email address, and any optional name or context you choose to include in the form. We use this to confirm your spot, notify you when the app launches, and (if you’ve agreed to marketing emails) send you occasional product updates.
  • Communications: messages you send us at hello@neuron.ink and any information you choose to include.

Information you give us when you use the iOS app

  • Account information: your email address; a hashed password if you sign up with email and password, or an identifier from Apple or Google if you use Sign in with Apple or Sign in with Google; an optional display name.
  • Your journal entries and reflections: the text and prompts you write inside Neuron, along with timestamps and any tags or structure you apply. This is the core content of the Service.

Information we collect automatically

  • Device & diagnostic data (app): app version, OS version, device model, language and region, crash reports, and error events. We use Sentry to collect this.
  • Usage events (app): high-level events about how the app is used (for example, “entry created,” “AI reflection requested”) so we can fix bugs and improve the product. These are tied to your account identifier and not sold or shared with advertisers.
  • Marketing-site analytics: on neuron.ink we use Vercel Analytics, which provides aggregate, cookieless traffic measurement. It does not identify you personally. We don’t run any analytics inside the Neuron app beyond the diagnostic and usage events above.

Information from payments

When the iOS app launches and you subscribe, payment is handled by Apple through the App Store. We use RevenueCat to validate your subscription receipt and manage subscription status across devices. We don’t see or store your full card number, bank details, or Apple ID. From Apple (via RevenueCat) we receive an anonymized App User ID, product identifier, subscription status, renewal and expiration dates, and country of purchase.

What we do not collect

  • We do not collect audio recordings or biometric data from you.
  • We do not access your contacts, photos, microphone, or location unless you specifically grant permission for a feature that needs it (and today, no features do).
  • We do not use third-party advertising trackers.

3. How we use your information

We use the information described above to:

  • operate the waitlist and notify you when the app is available;
  • create and operate your account once the app launches;
  • store your journal entries and provide the journaling features;
  • generate AI reflections, summaries, and prompts by sending your content to the AI sub-processors listed below;
  • process subscription payments and manage billing;
  • diagnose crashes and errors, monitor the security and integrity of the Service, and prevent fraud and abuse;
  • send you service messages (for example, security alerts, subscription receipts, account notices, or notice of changes to these documents);
  • send you marketing emails about Neuron, but only where you’ve agreed to receive them — see the next section;
  • respond to you when you contact us; and
  • comply with our legal obligations.

We do not use your journal entries to train AI models — ours or any third party’s.

4. Marketing communications

If you’ve opted in to receive product updates and marketing emails (for example, by checking a box when you joined the waitlist or signed up for an account), we’ll send you occasional emails about Neuron through Resend. We rely on your express consent under Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) and your consent under the GDPR / UK GDPR where it applies.

Every marketing email contains an unsubscribe link, and you can also opt out at any time by emailing hello@neuron.ink. Withdrawing consent doesn’t affect service messages, which we need to send you to operate your account (for example, security alerts, subscription receipts, or notice of changes to these documents).

5. Legal bases for processing (EU/UK users)

If you’re in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we rely on the following legal bases under the GDPR / UK GDPR:

  • Performance of a contract — to operate your account, store your entries, and provide the AI features you ask us to provide.
  • Legitimate interests — to keep the Service secure, prevent fraud and abuse, and improve reliability through diagnostics. We balance these interests against your rights and freedoms.
  • Consent — for waitlist signups, marketing emails, and anything else we ask you to opt in to. You can withdraw consent at any time.
  • Compliance with legal obligations — to respond to lawful requests and retain records where required.

6. Sub-processors and third-party services

We use the following service providers to operate Neuron. Each is bound by their own contractual and legal obligations to protect your information, and each acts only on our instructions or under their own published terms.

  • Supabase, Inc. (United States) — provides our primary database and authentication. Your account information, journal entries, and waitlist data are stored in Supabase, encrypted in transit and at rest.
  • OpenAI, L.L.C. (United States) — processes your content via API to generate AI reflections. We use OpenAI’s API, which under OpenAI’s published terms does not use API inputs or outputs to train its models by default.
  • Anthropic, PBC (United States) — processes your content via API to generate AI reflections. Anthropic’s published API terms state that API inputs and outputs are not used to train Anthropic’s models by default.
  • Google LLC (United States) — provides Sign in with Google and processes your content via the Gemini API to generate AI reflections. We use the paid Gemini API tier, which under Google’s terms does not use inputs to train Google’s general models.
  • Apple Inc. (United States) — provides Sign in with Apple, App Store subscription billing, and push notification delivery for the iOS app.
  • RevenueCat, Inc. (United States) — validates App Store subscription receipts and manages subscription status across devices. RevenueCat does not receive your card data, your Apple ID, or the content of your journal entries.
  • Resend, Inc. (United States) — delivers our transactional and marketing emails (waitlist confirmations, product updates, service notices). Resend receives your email address and the contents of the emails we send you.
  • Functional Software, Inc. (Sentry) (United States) — collects crash and error events to help us diagnose bugs.
  • 650 Industries, Inc. (Expo) (United States) — provides mobile build and over-the-air update infrastructure for the iOS app and delivers push notifications.
  • Vercel Inc. (United States) — hosts the marketing website and provides cookieless aggregate traffic analytics for neuron.ink.

We’ll update this list when we add or remove providers. We don’t sell your information, and we don’t share it with anyone outside this list for their own marketing.

7. International data transfers

Although we’re based in Canada, the sub-processors above are located primarily in the United States, which means your information is transferred to and processed there. For transfers from the EU/UK, we rely on each provider’s Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent transfer safeguards. For Canadian users, we make these transfers in accordance with PIPEDA’s and Quebec Law 25’s requirements for handling personal information by organizations outside Canada, and we remain accountable for your information while it’s in our service providers’ hands.

8. How long we keep your information

  • Waitlist email: we keep your waitlist email until you ask us to remove it, you unsubscribe from all communications, or you create a Neuron account (at which point your waitlist record is merged into your account).
  • Account and journal entries: we keep them for as long as your account is active. If you delete individual entries, they’re removed from active systems immediately and from backups within 30 days.
  • Account deletion: when you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your information within 30 days, except where we’re required by law to keep specific records (for example, tax records for paid subscriptions).
  • Diagnostic and error data: retained according to Sentry’s default retention windows (typically 30–90 days).
  • Billing records: retained for as long as Canadian tax and accounting laws require (generally 6 years).

9. Your rights and choices

Subject to the law in your country, you have rights over your personal information. You can:

  • access the information we hold about you,
  • request that we correct information that’s inaccurate,
  • request that we delete your information,
  • request a portable copy of your information,
  • object to or restrict certain kinds of processing, and
  • withdraw consent at any time, where we’re relying on it.

To exercise any of these rights, email hello@neuron.ink from the address on your account, or use the account controls in the app. We’ll respond within the timeframe the law in your country requires (and within 30 days under PIPEDA).

For EU/UK users

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority. We’d appreciate the chance to address your concern first, so please consider contacting us at hello@neuron.ink before filing a complaint.

For California users

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), as amended by the CPRA, you have the right to know, the right to delete, the right to correct, the right to portability, the right to limit use of sensitive personal information, and the right to opt out of sale or sharing for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not sell or share your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. You can exercise the other rights by emailing hello@neuron.ink.

For Canadian users

You have rights under PIPEDA and, in Quebec, under Law 25. Our privacy officer can be reached at hello@neuron.ink. If we can’t resolve a concern, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or, in Quebec, the Commission d’accès à l’information.

10. Children

Neuron is intended for users aged 16 and over. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child under 16 has provided us with information, contact hello@neuron.ink and we’ll delete it.

11. Security

We protect your information with reasonable technical and organizational safeguards, including encryption in transit (TLS) and encryption at rest for stored content (via Supabase), scoped access controls for our team, and monitoring for unauthorized activity. No system is perfectly secure, so we can’t guarantee absolute security. If we become aware of a security incident that affects you, we’ll notify you as required by law.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make a material change, we’ll give you reasonable notice (in the app or by email) at least 14 days before the change takes effect. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
